Ybbs Hollenstein district
The Hollenstein district begins approximately 70 meters above the Lettenwagerbrücke bridge, directly at the lower end of the Blamau (II) district. As in the Blamau (II) district, the fish population, which is certainly good, consists of brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling. There is a large natural weir in the upper third next to the famous natural outdoor pool. In the middle of this district, the very fish-rich Hammerbach flows out of the village of Hollenstein on the left bank, which can be fished approx. 2 kilometers upstream.
The almost 4 km long stretch is easily accessible throughout, although some parts require deep fording. After the Ybbs has passed the village of Großhollenstein, the section ends at the bridge over the spring stream which – looking downstream – flows into the Ybbs on the right bank.
Many of our guests love this route in the upper Ybbstal not only because of the excellent fish stock. You will find peace, rest and relaxation in the lovely valley during your fishing breaks.

The Hollenstein area is wonderful. It is difficult to access in places, but offers wonderful fishing and the opportunity to catch beautiful grayling, rainbows and the occasional brown trout. The spot in the middle at the confluence of the Hammerbach below is particularly interesting in the morning. A few casts with the nymph, as invisible as possible, hidden behind the stones can produce trophy fish. The fight there is an experience. Afterwards, above the Hammerbach, take the pull and decide in the afternoon whether to go up or down. Both above and below are some places where there is waist-high mudflat depth. One of my favorite spots. I always leave out the area around the lido. The lure of the rainbow trout at the bridge in Hollenstein is also not worth spending much time on. You have a maximum of 2 casts there.
